Department of Physics of Magnetism (Laboratory of Magnetism) – Founder and head (since 1976), Deputy Rector, Director of Institute of Experimental Physics.  International experience University of Kansas – Research Position (1980-81); University of Tübingen – Research Position 2 months (1984); University Paris-Sud, Orsay – Visiting Professor 5 months (1992, 1993); University Paris Sud, Orsay, France and HMI, Berlin, Germany (few research visits with total duration 8 months (2007-2009)).  Research projects: coordinator of over a dozen Polish and international projects, selected, recent: (i) Combined study of nanostructured magnetic materials NANOMAG-LAB EU FP6 MC ToK (2004-2009) http://labfiz.uwb.edu.pl/zfmag/tok/index.php; (ii) Femtosecond opto-magnetism and novel approaches to ultrafast magnetism at the nanoscale, FANTOMAS, EU FP7 ITN MC, (2008-2012), (responsible for Polish contribution); (iii) Polish project National Centre of Magnetic Nanostructures for Applications in Spin Electronics – SPINLAB PO IG 2.2 Operating Programme Innovative Economy, (2009-2012), (responsible for University of Białystok contribution); (iv) Statics and dynamics of magnonic and magnetophotonic crystals, SYMPHONY, Foundation for Polish Science Team Programme co-financed by the EU European Regional Development Fund (2012-2015); (v) Tailoring of magnetic properties of ultrathin film structures by electromagnetic radiation in a wide spectral range TIGER, Polish-Czech Harmonia project, Polish National Science Centre (2013-2017); (vi,vii) two bilateral projects focused on Ga+ ions bombardment induced spin reorientations in Co ultrathin films: Polish-German (2009-2010) and Polish-French Polonium project (2012-2013).  Activities: Investigation of statics and dynamics of magnetic domain structures and magnetic phase transitions. Development of magnetooptical magnetometers supported by digital image processing techniques. Experimental and theoretical study of garnet films doped by strongly anisotropic magnetic ions with effects such as room temperature photomagnetism, magnetic structure shape memory, self-biasing effect. Study of influence of ion implantation on properties of magnetic films. Computer supported physics education. Investigation of magnetic anisotropy, domain structures and magnetization processes in nanostructures. Ions bombardment and light irradiation influence on magnetic materials properties. Magnetization excitations and spin waves propagation in patterned films.  Publications: over  250 English peer-reviewed research papers.
